HEALTH + SAFETY CHECKLIST
1. Has your pregnancy been confirmed and has the viability been verified?
Even if you've had a positive pregnancy test, an ultrasound is the best way to confirm the pregnancy, determine how far along you are, and rule out an ectopic or tubal pregnancy. You should also verify your HCG levels beforehand. As many as 1 in 4 pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage, and more than 80% of miscarriages occur in the first three months of pregnancy.
2. Do you know what side-effects to expect and when to seek help?
At your appointment, we can share more about what to expect after a medication abortion and what you may encounter. The most common side effects are contractions, heavy bleeding, abdominal pain, fever, and infection. If symptoms worsen or bleeding is proficient, emergency care may be needed.
2. Do you know what options are available to you if the abortion fails?
On occasion, there are incomplete abortions. Find out what steps you need to take and don’t be afraid to seek emergency help right away. If you decide to continue the pregnancy, reversal may be possible if you have only taken the first dose of the abortion pill.
